How Therapy Helps Reprocess Traumas
Trauma is your response to an event you perceive as threatening. Trauma can come from a one-time event (like a crime or natural disaster) or an ongoing pattern (like intimate partner violence or childhood abuse). If you don’t process the trauma, it can become stuck in your mind and body.
ct therapist
Trained therapists West Hartford, CT, can help you process your trauma so you can start to heal. At Held Center for Healing, your counselor will begin by creating a safe, supportive environment to help you feel comfortable. We believe therapy is only effective if you feel safe and cared for.
Then, we will use proven techniques to help you work through the traumatic event in real time. Our therapists are experienced in multiple types of trauma therapy, enabling them to choose the one that works best for you. Options include EMDR therapy, exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and talk therapy. Our therapists West Hartford are experts in all options and can help decide the best avenue for you.

What Is Trauma Therapy & Grief Counseling?
Trauma therapy aims to release the stored trauma from your mind and body. One of the core effects of trauma is an increase in fear. You may be worried (even subconsciously) that the event will happen again, that you will run into the person who harmed you, or that an everyday event may trigger a painful flashback.
The fear often leads to avoidance, which creates problems of its own. You may avoid certain people, activities, or even leaving the house. This avoidance can quickly lead to isolation, loss of enjoyment, and depression. If you feel isolated or out of control, trauma therapy West Hartford, CT can help.
Trauma therapy helps you reprocess your trauma at your own pace. As you realize that old traumas and subsequent flashbacks are not a threat to your safety, you can start to recalibrate your nervous system. Trauma counseling can also help you identify triggers and develop coping mechanisms.
For example, mindfulness-based therapy is a technique that can help you slow things down, become present in the moment, and tune into your body. This can help you calm your mind, generate self-compassion, and let go of fear. Our mental health therapist West Hartford CT practice will help you work through your trauma and find peace again.

What Is EMDR Therapy, and How Does It Work?
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a highly effective treatment for a range of clinical issues, this is one type of treatment available for trauma. Our clients benefit from EMDR for phobias and panic attacks, anxiety, depression and even unrecognized side effects. We offer EMDR trauma therapy, EMDR for addiction, and EMDR for grief counseling West Hartford, CT.
EMDR is rapid eye movement therapy that stimulates the brain in a controlled therapeutic setting. Your therapist will work with you to identify traumatic events, stressful memories, and negative thoughts. Then, they will use bilateral stimulation (including eye movements, sounds, and tapping) to help your brain reprocess memories.
Instead of associating negative memories with danger, EMDR helps you store these memories in a new, healthier, and less stress-inducing way. EMDR is one of the most efficient and effective ways to work through traumatic memories.
