What Is Yoga Therapy?

A yoga therapy session will look different for everyone. Our sessions are currently offered on telemed, so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. You should come to the session dressed comfortably. The practice will either be done seated in a chair or on a yoga mat.

You will move through different yoga poses at the instruction of your certified yoga therapist. While engaging in these poses, you may be guided through breathing or meditation exercises. Your therapist will be able to correct your technique to ensure you don’t risk injuring yourself. During the sessions you will notice release of tension and stress, and will learn how to calm and destress your nervous system.

A yoga class typically doesn’t have the same focus on mental health as yoga therapy does, although people can find mental health benefits from it. Many people in yoga classes are there to focus on physical exercise, improving flexibility, strength, and stability.
